Much enjoying these pattern books that came my way at a garage sale. I tell you if I had that lovely mauve woolen sweater I'd look that pleased with myself also.

blazing glory
Yey! Winter...sort of. Okay so I think this is about as winter as gets up here. Missing a proper cold winter where I can wear layer upon layers of shirts and cardi's and coats and hats and scarves and SOMEONE STOP ME! Well this weekend was finally fresh enough for a jumper and da de da!! - my newly acquired blazer. Okay so I'm still wearing shorts but I was just off for a walk on the beach and paddle in the waves.
Reasons the blazer is amazing: perfect preppy check, red and blue and cream (oh my!), and brilliant red silky lining.
I found this little baby in Townsville in a wee little vintage/retro shop. I've paired it with an op-shopped navy woollen V-neck jumper, a red polka dotted shirt from a friend's nanna, some cheapo shorts and my Connie's.

sew-in' love
Am finding myself rummaging through estate sales and op shops for vintage sewing and knitting patterns. I have it in my mind that I will somehow grow the skill to be able to follow said pattern. At the rate I'm going, the skills will only be acquired through osmosis or some other naturally occurring, energy free process. One day I might have the time, money and motivation to give it a crack, but for now I'm content with looking through the pretty pictures.
Here are the cutest feminine shirts with little collars and cinched in waists...
...and some simple pleated evening dresses paired with gloves and pearls...
...or perhaps a smart two-piece. So smart and tidy.
How hard could it be??

pink lace and ponies
Winter racing...in sunny Queensland. So let's face it, not really winter at all. Still, some ladies made the commitment and wore gorgeous jackets and felt hats laden with feathers and frills. A large proportion of the crowd were orange hued, with lots of skin of show, confidently displaying their upper thigh/lower genital region. Thoroughly entertaining.
The races is one of the few occasions I can convince the mister to wear a bow tie. This is super sad because look how cute he looks!
I wore the dress I bought for uni graduation years ago, a lovely 50's pink lace shift. I bought it from an estate sale where the owner of the house had a wall to wall collection of costume and vintage dresses from throughout the decades. I think I secretly want the same one day - just to look over all the fabrics and colours and think about the stories behind the pieces. The daughters who sold me the dress made me promise I'd look after and treasure the dress, and I guess I am.
