fiesta!

These are some snaps of one of our regular weekend cook-ups.  It's become tradition to search through our bookshelf of cookbooks for something delicious and/or challenging as hell.  Cooking is so therapeutic and not only do you get the warm fuzzy feeling of 'I made that', you get to eat it all too!

We decided to make a Mexican feast to use up some cabbage and sour cream.  So here are the soft shell taco's and avocado filled enchiladas that we took out to the garden for a long afternoon of eating and reading.  The colours and tastes of Mexican food are brilliant, don't you think?

easy peasy delicious breakfast toast

Let me introduce you to the most simple delicious breakfast.  But don't limit it there - it's a great lunch, snack or lazy dinner.  A wonderful benefit to living in Queensland is cheap cheap cheap seasonal fruit and veg.  Think mangoes, strawberries, lychees and avocados!  Too many to know what to do with, but here's how we get manage:

Dice up a stack of avocados
Dice up a stack of tomatoes
Dice up a smaller stack of Spanish onion
Juice of lemon
Oil of olive
S&P to season

Churn it all up and serve on toast!
Enough talk from me, I'm hungry again now.  And so is Ollie.

green buttons and evening strolls

Lately we've been trying to catch little bits of the sun before it stubbornly sets against our wishes.  Why do you disobey me sun? stay up!  If we go straight from work, pick up the dog and head straight to the park there is just enough time to go for a quick walk before having to dodge the sprinklers on the way out!

This 60's limey-minty green dress brings back such sweet memories.  My friend picked it out whilst we were visiting the markets down Portobello Road.  It's one of the only items I allowed myself to buy, you know the story - tight backpack, even tighter budget.  I recently revamped it by replacing the clear buttons with some darker coloured green ones (Do you know how expensive buttons are!?!). I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Yes, that black and white blur is our furry friend, Ollie.  He likes to run.

greeny-blue stripes, woollen tights and truffles

Yay! More adventures around Brisbane (I feel like it's becoming our second home).  We had a wonderfully rich, rather naughty and somewhat boozy extended lunch at Montrachet, which is a really really great French restaurant in Paddington.  I was dangerously close to falling into a food coma so we thought it best to take a stroll around the gardens (and take a wee nap on the grass).

I wore a favourite bright stripy vintage dress that kind of reminds me a of a cheerful Mexican poncho, and these dotted greeny-blue woollen tights have been an absolute winter staple (though rarely required in the climate up here).  Definitely looking forward to a few visits to a proper winter climate in Melbourne in the coming weeks.  Strangely feeling the need for some rain and freezing winds that welcome layers upon layers and snuggling deeper into pockets.

everywhere the light touches will be yours one day Simba

A little while ago we decided to catch the sunset from a different perspective.  This is on top of Mt. Archer where you can catch the last rays of the sun as it disappears behind the horizon.  The golden evening light shows up brilliantly in the haze that settles across the town below and reflects off the leaves.  Such magical moments.

unmotherly advice

Found this great advertisement in a vintage 50's magazine.  Wow has contraception come a long way.  'Confirmed the correctness', what a quotable quote.  Reminds me that although I often wish I lived in past times, I'm glad some things have changed.  Well done science.

gone with the wind

These are some recent snaps taken on the first day of a short trip up north.  The day started out quite pleasant, but a rather strong wind whipped us around.  These seem to be the only shots with my hair abiding by the laws of gravity - not to mention my skirt!

This is up in Mackay, which we only passed though long enough to stop, sleep and get back in the car in the morning.  And check out a few op-shops.  There is a lovely lighthouse (obviously) and a strange breakwater you can drive out onto.  It kind of looks like it should go all the way around to land again, but stops abruptly in the middle of the water.

You can see that by this stage I was sick of being poked in the eye by stray wisps of hair.  And so very chuffed that my dress semi-coordinated with the skies and the seas. Meant to be!
