sing us a song

Photo: The Phoncurves are a local duo who blend distinct new musical flavours with an aftertaste of pleasant nostalgia. Have a listen ... http://tinyurl.com/p7uhgcl

These lil darlin's have some sweet nanna cardigans and some sweet tunes.  I'm a fan.

what are ya, yella?

Just a super quick post about my newly found skirt I found at the op-shop.  It's nothin' too flash, but I like a bit of yellow, and the midi length of a skirt like this works well for me.  I work in a hospital, so hot pants and mini-skirts aren't suitable unless you want gross stuff of you leg.  That is all.  Thank you.

candyfloss

Have felt a little off this week, and I'm resisting the urge to curl up in a doona cocoon and sleep until night is day is night.  I thought popping on a pretty dress and giving myself a bit of TLC might make me feel better.  And it worked (for a bit at least).  This is a beautiful vintage 50's dress I found in an op-shop in the drive up from Victoria, through New South Wales to Queensland.  I always find the best discoveries are made in quaint little country towns.  It's so delicate that I loath to wear it too much for fear of wearing it out.  But I do love the light pastel stripes that remind me of candyfloss.  Was also nice to get around to reading some books I've found over the last few weeks, but more on that soon...

rollin' on the river

Well strollin' along the river actually.  Close enough.

I never get sick of the sun here in Queensland  It really picks up my mood.  This was a day where everyone was outside and getting some rays (slathered in sunscreen I assume).  Lots of young couples cycling past, mums and dads taking their kids down to the playground, and a dog sitting dutifully beside his master, waiting for fish to bite.

And I like to imagine who might have put together this sturdy vessel.  Perhaps a couple of boys with big dreams? "It'll come together one day soon" one would say to the other.

bad bad minton and velvet

Afternoon routine of a hit of badminton is set in stone for us.  It turns out to be the perfect combination of light exercise for us, heavy exercise for the dog, wind-down time post work, and friendly competition.

Picked up a couple of old wooden badminton rackets from an op shop and some professional quality shuttlecocks from the sports store.  In my mind, the good shuttlecocks make up for the fact that my racket is bowing very badly.

This velvety pinky red top is from the same op shop.  It's very touchy feely and I often catch myself patting my sleeve.  I incidentally discovered the mister has a sensory aversion to the feel of velvet!  This is going to be fun.

wasting time by the water

Washing day!  Sadly we have not got around to purchasing a washing machine, and hell, why would we?  Laundromats are the place to see and be seen kids.  I'll take some happy snaps of my local one day.  But yesterday was such a nice day we decided to pop down to the river whilst we waited.

Looks nice and inviting doesn't it? Wrong!  Crocodiles have been sighted at various times and they say bull-sharks swim this far inland also.  So it's just for looking and fishing and boating.  And a bigger-than-the-crocodile sized boat at that.

My top is op-shopped but is a modern little Target number.  But I like the pattern and cut of it and the little tiers.  The lemon skirt was a large old lady skirt that I've cinched in at the waist with a bit of needlework.

annticipation

Ooooh! Keep seeing advertisements for the King Kong theatre production in Melbourne.  Kong the puppet looks a-maz-ing, and a little scary.  But to be honest I'm more interested in Ann Darrow, the leading lady.

First of all we have Fay Wray from the 1933 movie.  Even when she's getting tied up by savages she looks stunning.

And more recently Naomi Watts in 2005.

In between there was a 1976 Ann, Jessica Lange, but I can't find a picture of her where she isn't in some state of undress.  It was the 70's, I guess that's just how they roll.

look up

These photos were taken (by the much obliging mister) when we took a long walk around Rockhampton, Queensland, where we live.

Sometimes you get so caught up in the daily grind and about getting to places that you forget to look up and see the mountains in the background or the sun shining through the leaves.  So this was us putting on our tourist eyes.  And heck this place is pretty gorgeous.

I'm wearing a $2 dress from an op-shop, and the little green shoes broach was from the same place.
